    • (OBIT: One of the most consistent Christian characters that ever made our village better by her presence in it, left our midst on Thursday evening last as the clock was telling the hour of eleven. Surrounded by friends, with composure and resignation she heard the summons, "your life's work is completed, come over to us, we have waited long," and in kind and sweet content said good bye to friends here, and bravely passed the fabled river to the Beautiful Land beyond.

      Today we believe she is with the dear ones, the loved and the lost, (as we in our grief sadly say) who have one by one become tired of life's warfare, and gladly gone away to the other shore.

      On March 20, 1816, Elizabeth I. Southard was born in Portland, Me. In Portland on Nov. 20, 1838 she married Robert Noyes of that city. They came to Norway 45 years ago, where they have ever since resided, and for all these many years have lived in the center of our little village, and made up much of the society of the place.

      In Portland Mrs. Noyes was a member of the 3rd Parish Congregational church, and sat under the preaching of Rev. Mr. Dwight. Upon the organization of the 2nd Congregational Church in this town in 1853 she became a member, and maintained her standing until her death.

      In Portland on August 3, '40 the first child, a son came into the family. A short stay of five months ended the life of George Edward. He is buried in Portland. Helen Maria was born Oct. 11 '41 in Portland. She died April 16, '47 in Norway. Frederick Barnard was born Jan. 29, '46 and died March 4, '53. The last two lie in Rustfield Cemetery.

      When the birds and flowers of the spring come to the north once more, these three children of their love and care will rest by their mother's side in the cemetery at Pine Grove, where the aged husband and father can find sweet rest and peace when the time of his calling shall fully come.

      She was a most affectionate wife and mother, and her memory will be sacred forevermore in the hearts of surviving friends.

      Two daughters survive the mother's death, to be the solace and stay of the father in his great affliction and in his declining years. Helen Maria who remains still at the old home, and Elizabeth Augusta, the wife of Nathan W. Millett. They are kindly, affectionate children and will care for him faithfully and well.

      It is related of Mrs. Noyes that she never spoke ill of anyone; and true it is that those that knew her best loved her most. The writer is of those who fully believe that she has but passed, as it were, from one room where many friends were to another, better and larger room, where all the dear friends who have been saying good-bye and sailing away all these seventy-two years of her life, stood ready to welcome her home.

      "My sorrow with this comfort yet is stilled--
      I do not dread to hear the winter stir
      His wild winds up -- I have no fear for her;
      And all my love could never hope to build
      A place so sweet beneath heaven's arch of blue
      As she by death has elected to.")
