She was preceded in death by an older, brother, William Wade and several half sisters and brothers.

After the death of her father and her mother’s remarriage, she became part of an extended family of half siblings and cousins in the Montgomery area. She attended country school and graduated from Richford High School in 1917 with a teacher’s certificate.

In 1920, she was married to a WWI Veteran, Howard Vincent Noyes in Chatham, N.Y. Howard died in 1924, as a result of war injuries, leaving Dorothy with two small daughters, Virginia Ann Jacobson, who died in 1981, and Barbara Alice Wilkins.

In 1924, Dorothy graduated from McVeigh Business School in Pittsfield, Ma. From 1924-1927, she worked for the Eaton Crane & Pike Co. In 1927, she moved to New York City, leaving her two daughters in the care of cousins in Vermont.

In 1938, she built a small cottage north of New York City at Lake Carmel where she spent most weekends and vacations. She delighted in gardening and raised vegetables and fruits which she carried back to the city.

In 1963 she retired in Lake Carmel. In 1976, she moved to Monterey, Cal., to be near her daughter, Virginia. She lived there until 1981, when she moved to Geneva.

Dorothy was a caring and loyal friend and pursued learning throughout her life. Her favorite pursuits included travel, reading and gardening. Dorothy was a loving mother and grandmother to her seven grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Hugh) Wilkins; seven grandchildren, Hugh Campbell Wilkins, Susan Elizabeth Wilkins, Beth Margaret Wilkins, Katherine Grace Wilkins, Patricia Jacobson Hill, Kathy Jacobson and Phillip Jacobson; and six great-grandchildren.
