  Notes	The following newspaper notice at the time of his death, gives his history briefly: "Hon. William Buxton, one of the most highly respected and valued citizens of North Yarmouth, has passed away - making one less the number of the good, noble and patriotic men which is alas ! too small - adding one to that glorious army above. He was a native of North Yarmouth, and early interested himself in the affairs of the town, beginning his career as a town officer some time before he was thirty years of age. He filled every office of importance in town - serving the town as representative to the legislature thirteen years, twenty-one years as one of the selectmen of the town and two years as one of the Governor's council. For many years he was one of the trustees of the school fund of the town and a trustee of North Yarmouth Academy. He was also a director of the Androscoggin & Kennebec railroad for one year. He always regarded the town as one of his special trusts, guarding its interests with a watchful eye, never losing his devotion to the town's affairs until failing energies and wasting disease began to make their sad inroads upon a formerly strong constitution and well balanced mind. His method and accuracy in business was early imbibed and fastened by many years of intimacy and friendly relation with Gen. Edward Russell, one of the former worthies of North Yarmouth, whose systematic and careful business method he took great pride in alluding to and referring to as a model for town officers to imitate; which fact is well attested by an examination of the town records as kept for many years by Gen. Russell and Esquire Buxton. He was a kind father and obliging neighbor. He leaves a large circle of friends and acquaintances to mourn his decease."
