      OBITUARY

      Mrs. Emma L. Noyes died last Thur., Jan. 31, after only a brief illness at the home of her sons, A. N. Noyes, former Recorder of Deeds of Polk Co., and George Noyes, in Bolivar. She lacked a month and a half of being 87 years old. The funeral was held at Mt. Gilead on Feb. 1st, preached by the Rev. J. M. McColm. The Noyes family came to Polk Co. in 1888 and have spent most of the time since then in the eastern part of Polk Co. There are 3 sons and a daughter surviving. A. N. Noyes and George Noyes of Bolivar, Joe Noyes of Halfway, and Mrs. Lon McKinney of Halfway.

    • Judy McKinney has papers showing that in 1859 (before the marriage in Oct 1859) Emily's grandfather, Richard Lord asks the court that Riley Robinson be appointed guardianship of minor, Emily, saying both of her parents are dead. Judy M. has court papers where 17 year old Emily is put under guardianship of Joseph Noyes, presumably when they were married. She also has papers about Emily L. Minard's estate in 1860, where Riley Robinson, her guardian (note he also married them) is signing over Emily's estate to Joseph H. Noyes as her new guardian. Joseph H. Noyes signature is on it as receiving the estate, which is furniture, 275 acres of land at $8 per acre and 133 at $12 per acre. And lumber, because Gurdon Minard ran a lumber mill before he died.
