Philemon Bradford death affidavit


I Vance Merrill of Turner, County
of Androscoggin and State of Maine on
oath depose and say that my age is
fifty nine years, that I have been
acquainted with Philemon A. Bradford
late a Soldier in Co. A, 30 Regt. of
Maine Volunteers, from childhood -
that I have even resided in the same
neighborhood with him that he
died in Brattleboro, Vt. on or
about the Seventh day of August
1864, that I was not present when
he died, but I arrived there soon
after his death and removed his
remains to the town of Turner where
the body was buried, that I found
the "tag or band hereto annexed
attached" to the clothing of him the
said Bradford - that he left a widow
by the name of Lydia Bradford who is
still a widow and unmarried and
now resides within fifty rods of my
residence.
