- John Soule was a noted sea captain and a man of excellent estates. He commanded many vessels and sailed many seas in trade with foreign countries. In the war of the Revolution he held the rank of Lieutenant in a detachment from the "7th company of the 2d Cumberland County Regiment, to reinforce the Continental Army:" roll dated at North Yarmouth, Dec. 3, 1776. He also served as "First Lieutenant of Capt. John Gray's Company, Col. Jonathan Mitchell's Regiment," from July 7th to Sept. 12th, 1779, in the Bagaduce Expedition.
