OBIT: Henry Andrews Noyes passed away late Monday at his home on Spring street after an illness of ten weeks. Mr. Noyes was for several years editor of the Taunton Evening Herald, was a former member of the common council and a past chancellor commander of Orient Lodge, Knights of Pythias. Since retiring from newspaper work, he has been associated with Dr. M.C. Golden in the People's Coal Company of Fall River and was president of the corporation. For many years he was active in local civic movements and a frequent speaker before church and social organizations on civic and historical subjects. He was held in high esteem by all who knew him. A widow, Louise G. Noyes, and one son, Clement G. Noyes, survive. He also leaves a brother, Edward, in California.
Mr. Noyes was born in Newburyport, September 25, 1870, a son of the late Amos and Anna P. (Andrews) Noyes. After completing his school life he entered the newspaper profession on the Newburyport Herald, later joining successively the staffs of the Lowell Morning Mail, Northampton Herald, Brocton Despatch, Brocton Gazette and Taunton News, leaving the latter to become editor of the Taunton Herald, in which he secured a financial interest. For several years Mr. Noyes and Dr. M.C. Golden published the Herald, selling it out a quarter century or so ago and entering the coal business, in which he continued to the time of his death.
Mr. Noyes was a member of the Unitarian parish of this city and attended services there. He was quiet and home loving, an extensive reader, and well versed on literary and historical matters. He was a student of civic topics and at one time was a frequent contributor to the press generally on such topics.
Funeral services will be held at his home on Spring street, Thursday afternoon.
