- (OBIT: Gregg M. Barnes, 62
PORTLAND -- Gregg M. Barnes, 62, of Portland, passed away at home with his wife by his side on Tuesday, July 26, 2011.
He was born in Caribou, where he attended schools. In 1968 he enlisted in the Maine Army National Guard and served 10 years, mainly with the 133rd Engineers.
Gregg joined the Portland Fire Department in 1974 and retired in 1995. In 1985 he married Brigida Reali of Portland, and together grew a gaggle of five boys through 26 years of marriage.
In 2010, he retired from AAA of Northern New England after 20 years of service.
Greg enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Rangley Lakes area with his sons and many friends. He was quick with one-liners, a laugh, and a joke; he had a big heart and a sly smile. He always let you know where you stood- and he took care of his family as a loyal husband and father.
He was a member of the Eagles club and the American Legion. Gregg was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy (Morgan) and Raymond Barnes; brother, Butch Barnes, and sister, Cindy Bosley all from Caribou. He is survived by his wife, Brigida Barnes of Portland; and his sons, Matthew Barnes of Bath, Jason Barnes of Portland, Michael and Kelli Crosby of Scarborough, Ron and Peggy Crosby of Portland, and Paul Crosby of Portland. He leaves a legacy of 11 grandchildren who will greatly miss their 'Bubba.' We all will greatly miss him.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, on Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, from 2-6 p.m., immediately followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m., with the Rev. Philip Shearman officiating. Interment will be private. Please visit www.jonesrichandhutchins.com for additional information and to sign Gregg's guestbook.
