- He was a mariner, his family living in Providence, R.I., until about 1815, when he went to Ohio; but not liking the change, he went to New Orleans on a flat boat, and from there returned to Providence, where he lived until the death of his first wife, when he moved to Wilmington, N.C. He commanded a steamship sailing between New York and Savannah for some time before his death.
