- Place name meaning, crag. Locality used to locate Eben-ezer (1 Sam 7:12), translated and interpreted variously since the earliest translations. It may refer to a prominent hill or mountain shaped like a tooth. Early translations read it as "Jeshanah"(REB, NRSV), but that appears to be too far east for the context. Some early translators read, Beth-shan. The exact location is debated and uncertain.
