- Eunice Bacon was the daughter of James and Tabitha Sawtelle Bacon of Vassalboro, ME.
Her father was a trader, farmer and tavern keeper. Bacon's Corner was named for him.
There are no birth records for Eunice or her father, only history and tradition.
Eunice's grandfather, also was named James, was born in Bedford, MA, in 1738, the 7th of 11 children. He received a grant of land from his father-in-law in Vassalboro in 1763, later owned considerable land there, and kept a tavern at Sidney. The first town meeting was held at his home in 1771.
The first six generations of Bacons came from Winston, England, to Dedham, MA, by 1633.
Eunice's great- great grandfather's home still stands in Bedford, MA. His name was Josiah.
