  Notes	He was captain of a canal boat. He also engaged in mercantile business at White Deer and at Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania. He owned and cultivated a farm of sixty acres at Lewisburg. This property remained in the family until after the death of his wife. In politics he was a Republican, and was well informed in regard to the affairs of the organization. He was a member of the Christian church. Two of his sons were living together in the 1910 census of Portland, Maine.
