DEATH OF MRS. R. W. SUMMERS.

PASSES AWAY AT SANTA CRUZ TUESDAY, DECEMBER 27.

She Was a Noble Woman, Well Known in this Community.

Last evening the sad tidings of the death of Mrs. R. W. Summers was learned in this city. Mrs. Summers died at Santa Cruz on Tuesday, December 27. She had been ill off and on and was well on the way to recovery when seized with a severe cold and in a week's time it wrought its fatal work.

Mrs. Summers was well known in this city having spent here a great part of her life. She in company with her husband, the late Rev. R. W. Summers, came to San Luis Obispo in 1881, when Mr. Summers officiated as rector of St. Stephen's Episcopal church. Mrs. Summers lived her from that date until recently. During her residence in this city she was known as a lady of the purest and noblest character. She engaged actively in the work of the Episcopal church and will ever be remembered for her faithful endeavors in its behalf.

During the last year Mrs. Summers had been in feeble health and when on July 5, of the present year Mr. Summers died, great fear was entertained as to his widow's recovery. Shortly after this Mrs. Summers removed to Santa Cruz, where she has since resided. She had numerous friends in San Luis Obispo with whom she frequently corresponded.

Her death is a shock to many of her friends in this city who believed that her health was much improved. Mrs. Summers had just passed her sixtieth year. She leaves an adopted daughter.)
