- [Plym. Col. Wills, 4: I:8] "A true Inventory of .... the Goods Chattles and Creditts of John Huckings Deceased apprised att his house in Barnstable the 27 Day of December 1678 by Joseph Laythorp and Barnabas Laythorp". The total amount of the inventory was 1154, 12s. The only real estate was: "Item in housing upland and meddow" £70, "Mr Thomas Huckengs Reserveing alwayes to himselfe the one halfe of the warehouse; with Free egresse and Regress therinto". One forth part of a ketch was valued at £30.
"Hope the late wife of the said John Huckings made oath to the truth of this Inventory this third of March 1678 Before mee Thomas Hinckley Assistant:"
[4: 1:9] "In Reference unto the settlement of the estate of John Huckings late of Barnstable (whoe died Intestate) between the mother and the Children of the said John Huckings with the Consent of Elder John Chipman and Thomas Huckings senir: It is ordered by the Court that Hope the Mother of the said Children and Relectt of the said John Huckings shall have the whole estate hee left; whether in house lands or other estate whatsoever To her sole Dispose for ever, Towards the support and the bringing up of the five Children which shee had by him; provided and so as shee the said Hope Doe pay or cause to be payed unto the said Thomas Huckens his executors or assignes within two yeers after the Date heerof the full sume of twenty and five pounds in Currant New England money for the use and to be Improved to and in behalfe of the said Children and the Surviver & Survivers of them whoe are Named Elizabeth Mary Experience Hope and Mehittable, To be equally Devided with the produce and Advance, which may arise by the Improvement therof as aforsaid unto the said five Children or the Surviver or Survivers of them as they or any of them shall attaine the age of twenty one yeers Respectively or the Day of Marriage which shall first happen
And the said Thomas Huckings Did apper in open Court; and Acknowlidge, his Surrender of the house and Lands in the Inventory of the said John Huckings mensioned on Record into the hands of the said Hope her heires and assignes for ever, which hee Did Intend to Bestow on the said John Huckings Deceased and which hee in his Life time had the use and Improvement off; And is Now by the said Thomas Huckings heerby ffreely and absolutely Conveyed assured and Confeirmed unto her the said Hope, And to the onely proper use and behooffe of her the said Hope The Relicte of the said John Huckinges, and to her heires and Assignes for ever in Manor and forme aforsaid, according to the true Intent and meaning of these prsents in Testimony wherof the said Thomas Huckings Desires the Record heerof; and for Confeirmation of the whole as aforsaid the Court have ordered the Record heerof;
